2 Blogging Secrets Every Business Owner Should Know

You’ve heard this before; If you have a business website, you have to have a business blog. So you set one up. But we want to ask you a few honest questions: Is your blog any good? Is it working for you? Is it making you any money? These can be hard questions to answer. Wish you knew what’s in the secret sauce of   a blog that gets you more sales? Don’t worry, we here at Social Spice Media want to share a couple of secret blogging ingredients that will get you on the fast track to better blogging for your business. We use what we call The 2 Pillars of Perfect Blog Posts, or the “2 P’s”. Applying The 2 P’s to your blog content will help your create posts that will grab attention,  connect you closer with customers, keep them coming back for products or services, and ultimately bump up your bottom line.   1. Post with Purpose It’s common that soon after a business announces to the world wide web they have a blog, they experience a slight panic, and start posting just about anything to have content. Sound familiar? But the truth is, it’s better not to have a blog at all, than to have  what we call a “BLAH-og.” A “BLAH-og” falls under two categories. The first consists of posts that are “thin” in content, which according to Google is 300 words or less—and will rank lower on the scale of quality content, which is overall bad for your website SEO. The other, is on the opposite side of the spectrum with blogs that run, on, and on, and on…A study conducted by National Center for Biotechnology Information shows that the average time span for online readers per page is 9 seconds (about the same as a goldfish). This means, chances are you’re going to lose your audience with longwinded posts. The sweet spot for blogs is in the 400-500 word range. Within that length, make sure posts are helpful, useful, and insightful to your readers. This way you boost credibility, become an authority in your industry, and build trust with your followers.   2. Publish with Persistence Time is warped online. Consistency is crucial with a business blog. Here’s an infographic from our friends at kindofnormal.com  that helps puts things in perspective… One month between posts can feel like 20 lifetimes to your followers. Make blogging as much a priority as paying rent, and over time your loyalty to them will convert as their loyalty to your business. Plan ahead with an editorial calendar, and streamline the process. It’ll keep you from ripping out patches of hair in front of your computer hoping they’ll grow into good blog posts.   If you’re still struggling to wrap your head around blogging about your business, let us help you with our unprecedented blogging expertise and social media services.
