We can’t predict the future, but with artificial intelligence programs becoming more popular, effective and responsive by the day, it’s crucial to keep up to date with the latest news in AI development. By now, you’ve probably heard about ChatGPT and other similar tools, like Google’s Bard and Bing Chat. These chatbot tools respond to user queries with intelligent language responses. Some have praised ChatGPT as the future of content creation while others
are hesitant and have even called for a pump on the AI brakes.
At Social Spice Media, we know it is critical to stay on top of the trends and tools in our ever-evolving industry. While ChatGPT can be a powerful tool when used responsibly, it’s a good rule of thumb to exercise patience and caution with tools that have the power to “change everything.”
What’s the Hype?
With its latest release in November of 2022, ChatGPT4 is much more responsive than its previous editions. This has led many
to say that this could be the beginning
of a revolution in education, journalism, programming, and marketing.
Depending on the level of detail in your instructions, ChatGPT can generate realistic and intelligent responses that are convincing enough to fool general-knowledge audiences.
But aside from college students using it for their essays at 11:59 on a Saturday night, it’s safe to say that this technology isn’t at the 2001: A Space Odyssey
Sam Altman, co-founder of OpenAI (the parent to ChatGPT), shared some of the shortcomings of the tool in a Tweet: “ChatGPT is incredibly limited, but good enough at some things to create a misleading impression of greatness… we have lots of work to do on robustness and truthfulness.”
So why are people so quick to put all their eggs in the AI basket?
How Do Industries Benefit from ChatGPT?
AI-driven material is sweeping the planet– from drafting computer code to illustrating how-to guides. Companies across a broad variety of industries find AI tools greatly beneficial when it comes to cost efficiency and time management.
Why pay an employee and spend time on research when you can tell a robot what to do, right?
Aside from that, ChatGPT can also produce:
- Data Analysis for Patterns and Predictions
- Thoughtful Responses to Customer Concerns
- Content Creation
- Industry Insights
While it seems like you can snap all this information out of thin air, this revolutionary technology still needs to hold a human hand.
In an ABC News interview
, Sam Altman said “ It [ChatGPT] waits for someone to give it an input. This is a tool that is very much in human control.”
recognizes the inevitable integration of AI-driven content on search engines. Instead of condemning it, Google encourages
creators to continue producing content that demonstrates E-E-A-T (expertise, experience, authoritativeness and trustworthiness)– AI or not. Google’s dedication to digital responsibility and high-quality information remains the same, and as the content producer, the bar should be equally as high for you.
ChatGPT Best Practices
ChatGPT can best be used to speed up internal processes and help your brain through the 2 pm slump. If you’re staring writer’s block in the face, AI tools can help by giving you a jumping-off point, or just getting something onto that forebodingly blank page. This technology can be an incredible asset when used wisely, keeping some best practices in mind.
Use Your Brain (sorry, still an important tool!)
Creative and thorough prompts will help ChatGPT formulate the best possible response. Once it is produced, use your editing skills to refine and give the response a human touch.
As always, it’s important to check your sources and the content that ChatGPT produces. Occasionally, the chatbot will experience what developers call “hallucinations”– and start simply making things up. Don’t get caught in the hallucinations. Make sure everything that you put out in the world is accurate and truthful by checking the content that you pull from ChatGPT.
No one wants to put their ethics or reputation at risk, so checking for plagiarism is a must. ChatGPT uses Originality AI to monitor potential plagiarism, which claims a 99% accuracy score, but it is by no means perfect. When asked
if it was plagiarism-free, even ChatGPT themselves stated:
“… it is important to note that ChatGPT’s responses are generated by analyzing vast amounts of text data from the internet, which means there is always a possibility that some of the information it provides may overlap with existing sources. If you are concerned about plagiarism, it is always a good idea to double-check the information provided by ChatGPT and verify it with other sources.”
Use It as a Tool, Not a Replacement
ChatGPT is best used as a supplement to your work. We wouldn’t advise you to use it to write your thesis paper, but it certainly can help clarify ideas and and turn your creative instructions into intelligent phrases. Use it for outlines and other short snippets in collaboration with your own human brain for best results.
